DESCRIPTION
Rafael Bonachela is one of the most exciting talents working in contemporary dance in Britain today. He emerged as a leading dancer with Rambert Dance Company during the 1990s and in 2006 founded Bonachela Dance Company. Rafael is now artistic director of Sydney Dance Company.  Rafael originally conceived the piece The Land of Yes and the Land of No for a traditional theatre space and presented it in spaces such as London’s Queen Elizabeth Hall. Rafael and the composer Ezio Bosso together devised the work and music for The Land of Yes and the Land of No, and the piece is emblematic of Rafael’s desire to integrate contemporary and classical dance. As an exclusive collaboration with HiBROW, Rafael took the bold move of rehearsing and performing The Land of Yes and the Land of No outdoors on the steps of St Paul’s Cathedral. The cathedral was integral to the commissioning of the project, and Rafael and his collaborators presented the work to the public over three consecutive weekday lunchtimes. The work was received with huge enthusiasm, and audiences grew over each day as word spread of this extraordinary, one-off event.
The HiBROW production team captured this temporary, ethereal work on film. Mobile technology allowed the HiBROW team to immerse themselves in the project and to invade the work, inviting the viewer right into the heart of it in a way very seldom seen on screen.  The Land of Yes and the Land of No features Hollie Miller as principal dancer. Hollie was integral to the creation of the piece and this was one of her final performances before retirement.
