DESCRIPTION
The final movement (the Rondo Finale) of Mahler's Symphony No. 5, composed in 1901-1902, is a complex countebalance to the emotional Adagietto that preceeds it. Leonard Berstein famously said, "the fantastic finale almost forces you to hold your breath". This particular performance of the symphony, conducted by the young Russian conductor Vasily Petrenko was received by a rapturous full house at Liverpool's great Philharmonic Hall. They gave the orchestra a seven minute standing ovation!
HiBROW's production teams, which included the legendary British film director Ken Russell, captured the entire rehearsal process and performances by the RLPO of arguably Mahler's two greatest symphonies - the Fourth and the Fifth.
