Sarah Nicolls is an experimental pianist. She has performed concerts with the London Sinfonietta, the Philharmonia Orchestra and the BBC National Orchestra of Wales. She also plays with Mira Calix and David Sheppard in Alexander’s Annexe, a band which explores the meeting of the grand piano with electronic music. Here, Sarah performs on her own invention: the inside-out piano. To create this entirely new instrument, Sarah transformed an upright piano by removing its insides and adding microphones and other noise-making devices. She continues to develop the inside-out piano and is using it as the basis for further experiments with sound.
