US writer, George Saunders has won the inaugural Folio Prize for his “darkly playful” collection of short stories, Tenth of December. Speaking at the award ceremony, Chair of the Judges, the poet Lavinia Greenlaw described his work as “unflinching, delightful, adventurous, compassionate”.
